Ondo reads riot act to land owners

Post  Admin on Mon Aug 17, 2015 7:30 pm

ONDO State Government has read the riot act to all unauthorised land owners and occupants in the state, declaring that an end has come to unapproved use of land in all the 18 local government areas of the state.

The state government also warned dubious individuals, who sold government-owned lands to desist from such act or face the full wrath of the law henceforth.

The state Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, in a statement expressed the government's resolve to go tough with issues relating to land matters in the state.

To checkmate illegalities in land matters in the state, Akinmade disclosed that the state government would henceforth, digitise the issuance of Certificate of Occupancy.

He said the state government had in 2014 launched the systematic Land Titling and Registration Exercise, adding that land matters would no longer be treated with levity in the state.

He said the project took off in January, 2014 with its implementation in three local government areas of the state, saying the beneficiaries of the exercise had been issued with digitised Certificate of Occupancy.

Akinmade said the initiative was aimed at showing the government's commitment to peaceful coexistence, adding that the initiative would ensure protection of property in the state.

Submitting that the era of dubious land transactions in the state was over, the commissioner said "for the first time in the country, the state would be issuing digitised Certificate of Occupancy to ensure that nobody sells or fraudulently issues such certificate."

Akinmade informed that the initiative was aimed at driving a means of wealth creation for the people to access the wealth tied to their land.

"Unlike the sporadic method in which government waits for land owners to come, under this scheme, government agent goes to land owners for data gathering "he added.
