Chevron sign MoU with Ilaje, Ondo govt
American oil giants, Chevron Nigeria Limited has entered a working agreement with Ilaje Regional Development Committee and Ondo State government.
The new Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) will aid CNL oil exploration activities in the host communities and fast track the development of the oil rich area.
The agreement which was signed in Warri, Delta State would enable all the communities covered by the pact to enjoy infrastructural development.
Chevron's General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Deji Haastrup,who performed the official signing ceremony however solicited for the cooperation of all stakeholders in the implementation of the agreement.
He expressed optimism that the vision of similar GMoU entered years ago has been realised for the past seven years.
He disclosed that the oil firm has supported the development committee with N700 million in the past seven years.
According to him: ''The partnership built on the platform of the GMoU has yielded many benefits for all the parties".
"We cherish this relationship and look forward to improving on this as the GMoU with the IRDC enters its third tenure'', he added.
While commending the leadership and people of Ilaje for their commitment to the objectives of the GMoU, Haastrup urged the other communities in the different areas where ''they operate in the Niger Delta, to continue to uphold the spirit of peace, friendship and good neigbourliness''.
Chairman, IRDC, Prince Jackson Nomiye, expressed happiness the crisis which rocked the committee has been resolved , adding that the area was marginalized in the scheme of things by the government and other intervention agencies until Chevron came and rescued them from the morass of underdevelopment.
He pledged that the agreement would be implemented to the letter as the people of the area must enjoy the dividends of their resources even as he gave the assurance that the people would continue to protect Chevron's facilities in their domain.
Also speaking, Representative of Morgan Smart Development Foundation, Dr. Urhobo who is working as a technical partner with the Ilaje, affirmed that the committee has always been adopting best practices in project implementation.
According to her, there are substantial evidence on ground that the GMoU is really working in the Ilaje communities and lauded Chevron for its people-oriented policies to its host communities.
