And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hossieni

In this work, I think he's more american, compared to his previous two books. In the kite runner and A thousand splendid suns, the mood is strongly afghan, while in And The Mountains echoed, he explores the world of afghanis who are more afghani in name than culture.

This new work describes about three generations of families, and follows them as they move around the world. The ones in africa, however, arent looked at too closely, not sure why. Possibly he might present them in a future book.

I found the Greek angle rather surprising, but it does add to the book's international flavour.

As always, Hosseini explores the question of boundaries- he usually considers them insurmountable once they're in place, although he made an exception in A Thousand Splendid Suns, but in reality, its hard to keep from noticing his views on the matter. For him, i think his view is destiny does not allow room for coincidences, and is irrevocable.
