New visa regime will attract foreign investors, says minister

Post  Admin on Mon Sep 10, 2012 10:55 am

AS part of Federal Government's efforts in ensuring that Nigeria becomes the next economic destination in Africa, the Ministry of Interior has introduced a new visa regime to achieve this goal.

The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, who dropped this hint in a chat with journalists in Makurdi at the weekend, also said that many attachés from the Nigeria Immigration Service had been sent out to foreign countries to attend a training on visa applications in line with the transformation agenda of the current administration and its desire in ensuring that the country becomes the next business destination in Africa for all businesses.

Moro added that the Federal Government has also liberalised the process of visa process, just as it has allowed for the issuance of business visa to businessmen at the point of entry. According to him, it would reduce the encumbrances that business people encounter before entering the country in the past, which was largely due to lack of transparent and time-consuming visa processing.

The minister further said the Ministry of Interior, through the Nigeria Immigration Service, has taken appropriate step at flushing out criminally-minded people from Nigeria, stressing that the Federal Government is not resting on its oars at curbing the insurgency that has engulfed the northern part of the country so as to create an enabling environment for both local and international businesses to thrive.

He called on foreign investors to take advantage of the abundant economic potential in the country by investing in all areas of businesses.

Commenting on the Treaty and Protocol on Movement of Persons and Goods in the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS), the minister noted that it is not a licence for unrestricted movement into countries.
