Murtala Muhammed International Airport not blacklisted by US - NCAA

Post  Admin on Tue Aug 07, 2012 3:13 am

The Director-General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Harold Demuren, on Sunday said that Nigeria's Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, was not blacklisted by the United States' authorities.

Demuren's reaction came on the heels of a picture posted online suggesting that the MMIA had been blacklisted by the US authorities.

A statement by the NCAA boss described the online pictures as “a hoax and malicious falsehood”

According to the director-general, an official of the Transportation Security Administration of USA has denied any knowledge of the report, which its author alleged came from the US Secretary of Transportation.

TSA categorically stated that it had no idea where the report originated from, Demuren said.

The statement said, “The TSA confirmed that the last security assessment found Murtala Mohammed International Airport to be in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organisation security requirements.”

“The TSA also mentioned that a similar scam was posted in Venezuela two months ago reflecting the blacklisting of its airport. The current purported posting on Murtala Mohammed International Airport is believed to be a replica of a belated one in 1992-2000 by the Department of Transportation, USA.”

“We wish to inform the general public to disregard the posting. Nigeria has since become a CAT ONE nation and TSA Security Certification compliant, in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation and Nigerian Regulatory requirements.”
