Jigawa federal university to take off with 200 students

Post  Admin on Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:50 pm

The vice chancellor of the newly established Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Jibrilla Amin, has said that the university will admit only 200 students to takeoff.

Mr Amin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, that 795 candidates applied for various courses in the university through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

He, however, said that the National Universities Commission (NUC) directed the institution to admit only between 100 and 200 students.

The institution’s boss said that he was working diligently with other principal officers of the university to takeoff in September, adding that full academic session would commence in the first week of October.

Mr Amin said that the university would begin with nine science and technology-based courses, including Agricultural Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, English, Environmental Science, and Economics, among others.

He said that when the university matured in the next 20 years, between 30 and 40 courses would be offered in the institution.
