The Far Pavilions by Margaret Kaye. One of the best love stories ever.

Trade Wind by the same author. Shocking love story set in Zanzibar, in the middle of the slave trade and involving an English slaver.

Frenchman's Creek by daphne Du maurier. Interesting story of a French pirate who helps a repressed English lady find love.

Rebecca by the same author. A classic that has stood the test of time.
